Well, we launched ourselves into the world of a little more 'serious' digital photography, buying a Kodak P880. Basically a 'prosumer' camera - so far I have been very impressed with what it can do. For the money (about $300 online, but Bestbuy will match it) this is a great camera. It should be a lot of fun to work with while we save for the Nikon D200 :-)
